A disciple of the great Sarod maestro, Ustad Ali Akbar Khan, Tajendra Narayan Majumdar has established himself as one of the major concert performers on the Sarod, as well as a composer for films and ballets. His style, as one would expect of someone with his extensive Maihar Gharana training, demonstrates a thorough knowledge of North Indian vocal and instrumental genres, perhaps most distinctively the Dhrupad-based Alap, complex yet playful Layakari in medium tempo and brilliant stroke combinations at higher speeds. Here, he executes the sombre and serious Raga Shree followed by the early morning Raga Bhatiyar.
