Shubha Mudgal - Chaturang (Four Colours)

Vocalist Shubha Mudgal is one of the most versatile and popular performers of the new generation of Hindustani musicians. Though her basic training was in the tradition of Gwalior gharana (school), she has assimilated other influences, thus not claiming lineage of any particular gharana.

Shubha Mudgal has interestingly chosen four genres of vocal music on this disc, namely Khyal, Chaturang, Hori and Chaiti. The first two represent the more robust form of classical music presentation while the latter two waft us into a world of folk music meeting the refinements of classical music. Track 1 and 2 are in Raga Bihag, Track 3 in Raga Sindhura, Track 4 in Raga Desh and Track 5 in Raga Mishra Piloo.
