Mashkoor Ali Khan: Raga Lalit and Miyan Ki Todi

Mashkoor Ali Khan is an exponent of the Kirana Gharana of khayal vocalism. Mashkoor (b. 1954) studied vocal music with his father, Sarangi exponent Ustad Shakur Khan (1905-75) who had been groomed by Ustad Abdul Wahid Khan, who, with Ustad Abdul Karim Khan, were the founders of the Kirana lineage.

Mashkoor Ali was initiated into music at a young age, and underwent training for 15 years under his father until the latter's demise. By age 12, Mashkoor was an empanelled radio artist, and is now an "A" Grade Artist of All India Radio. In 1981 he was invited to join the ITC Sangeet Research Academy, India's first conservatory style institution, as a Musician Scholar and in 1990, he was made a Resident Guru. Mashkoor Ali Khan has performed at many of India's most prestigious music festivals and conferences, including the Dover Land Music Conference, the Sawai Gandharva Music Conference, the Tansen Sangeet Samaroh, and the Uttar Pradesh Sangeet Natak Academy Sangeet Sammelan. Mashkoor Ali Khan has toured the U.S. many times with the SRA.
