Krishna's Journey - Ronu Majumdar NRCD 3512

GBP7.99

KRISHNA'S JOURNEY - PANDIT RONU MAJUMDAR: The Hindus believe that whenever there is prevalence of evil and injustice in the extreme on the earth, that there is divine intervention by way of incarnation in human form of the Lord Vishnu to rid the planet of the evil entities and protect the good and the meek. One such incarnation is that of Lord or Shri Krishna whose life story is perhaps the most celebrated in Hindu mythology. Lord Krishna appeared over five thousand years ago in Mathura, India to Devaki and Vasudeva in the jail cell of the tyrant Kamsa. He appeared with his brother Balarama in response to the demigods' prayers for protection from the widespread influence of demonic administration on earth. The Supreme Lord descends from time to time in this material world to re-establish the teachings of the Vedas. Historically, Lord Krishna appeared on the midnight of the 8th day of the dark half of the month of Sravana. This corresponds to July 19th 3228 BC. His earthly presence lasted for a little over 125 years until he departed on February 18th 3102 BC on the new moon night of Phalguna. (His departure marks the beginning of the current age of corruption known as Kali.) The great scholar Shri Vishvanatha Chakravarti neatly outlines Lord Krishna's activities in this way: the first three years and four months were spent in Gokula, then equal lengths of time in Vrindavana and Nandagram, eighteen years and four months in Mathura, and finally ninety-six years and eight months in Dwaraka totaling 125 years of manifest pastimes. Lord Krishna, who legend has it, was himself a bansuri player. It was, in fact, Krishna's flute that mesmerized the gopis (milkmaids) of Vrindavan (Krishna's original home in North India,) so much so that they would leap out of bed in the dead of night and follow the strains of the bansuri deep into the forest. Lord Krishna and his flute were said to be inseparable. Pandit Ronu (Ranendranath) Majumdar, one of the leading flautists of the Indian bansuri (bamboo flute) presents various milestones from the life of Lord Krishna, captured in music and song, led by the bansuri, an appropriate instrument to celebrate the life of Lord Krishna. Majumdar, who learnt to play the bansuri from his father, has performed in prestigious venues all over the world and has also scored the soundtrack for the Hollywood film "Primary Colours." His other recent albums, as composer, include "Koi Akela Kahan," "Dhyana" and "Ekatman." As a performer, he has recorded a large number of albums, including "Heart to Heart", "Reverie"(NRCD 0073), "Meditation in Vrindavan Song of Nature," and many more. Majumdar's flute is joined by, among others, the vocalists Ashit and Hema Desai as well as the santoor of Pandit Satish Vyas to create an unusual harmony of music and with sacred verses symbolizing the life of Lord Krishna.
