By LANGAS: The Folk Musicians of Rajasthan. BANAA (The Bridegroom)

A large number of folk songs of Rajasthan are based on the theme of weddings. One of the important subjects of such songs is the bridegroom. The LANGAS live in the Western Rajasthan, India and their patrons are Sindhi Sipahis. Besides being excellent musicians, the Langas are also camel traders.

Their main instruments: Sarangi (A bowed string instrument), Satara (A double flute) and the Murchang (Jew's Harp) and Dholak. Main Singer: Bundu Khan, Support Singer: Hayat Khan, Sindhi Sarangi: Mehrudin Khan, Dholak: Phiroz Khan.

Features:
  • Kotal Ghudlo: Describes the procession of the bridegroom, sitting on the horse followed by the palanquin of the bride.
  • Jalalo-Bilalo: Depicts the feelings of the bride as she awaits the arrival of the bridegroom.
  • Toranio: Refers to a ceremony in which the bridegroom strikes the Toran (Triangular decorated wooden auspicious object, hung from the top of the house).
  • Dudhalio Bano: This song acknowledges the members of various castes for the role they play during the wedding.
  • Deran Nirkhan: Begins with the bride's arrival at the groom's camp.
  • Roop Nagar: Describes the groom as a man with grace, he has come from the land of beauty itself.
  • Badi Ko Banaji: This song welcomes the groom to the green garden where the beautiful bride lives.
  • Pagadiya Ra Paich: This is a song in a question-answer pattern. It begins with the bride questioning the groom.
  • Khinvaro: This refers to a particular family and the marriage of a particular person called Khinvaro.
  • Gahani To Mangal Gayo: This song refers to a marriage in a particular family of feudal Lords - The Jasawats.
