BANAA (The Bridegroom) By MANGANIYARS: The Folk Musicians of Rajasthan

BANAA (The Bridegroom) By MANGANIYARS: The Folk Musicians of Rajasthan.

A large number of folk songs of Rajasthan are based on the theme of weddings. One of the important subjects of such songs is the bridegroom. All the songs with the bridegroom as the central figure are referred to as Banaa - literally meaning the bridegroom.

THE MANGANIYARS: Songs of this album are sung by the Manganiyars for whom music is a hereditary profession, by virtue of their caste. They live in the Jaisalmer and Badmer districts of Western Rajasthan, India. Recorded by the finest artists of today. Main Singers: Multan & Chanan Khan. Kamaicha: Sakar Khan. Support Singer: Anwar Khan. Dholak: Phiroz Khan

Features:
  • Kachi Ghuldalo: Describes the harnessing of the horse.
  • Rang Bhino Banado: This song opens with the praises for the groom.
  • Dhumaldi: The Refrain line tells the groom with beautiful turban to ride the horse slowly and delicately.
  • Ambadi Badi: Opens with the description of a mango grove and a bungalow situated amidst the green trees.
  • Kesar Bano: Begins with looking for an auspicious day for the wedding.
  • Bhabhji Tharo Bando: This song begins with the urge 'Let us go and see the beautiful groom'.
  • Shri Bando: Beginning with the welcoming of the groom to the palace.
  • Aswari: This song depicts the feelings of the bride who is awaiting the arrival of her groom.
  • Kesario Tilkano: Begins with welcoming the groom with Tilak (Red auspicious mark made with the thumb on his forehead).
  • Sunderio: Yet another song praising the groom.
