"Padma Talwalkar" in Hindustani vocal music. The genre known as khyal has by far the largest number of exponents in the present day. Recitals of the more sober dhrupad genre are becoming quite a rarity in India itself, although surprisingly, dhrupad has become well-known in the West over the past few decades due to the international concert tours of performers such as the Dagar family and their disciples. Padma Talwalkar, through her associations with various gurus, has imbibed the styles of Gwalior, Kirana, Jaipur and Agra gharanas. She has benefited immensely with her association with the legendary Kishori Amonkar. Thus, as an individual artist, Padma Talwalkar has been able to create a blend of several styles. She is accompanied on Tabla by her husband, Suresh Talwalkar who was a long-time accompanist of famous Sarangi player, Pandit Ram Narayan. Pramod Dhundra Marathe on Harmonium.
